Vienna Spring Break, May 9 2026
We attended the Ultimate Frisbee Vienna Spring Break tournament in support of Echo Wien, the Austrian national champions. Tournaments like Vienna Spring Break place a very high demand on competitors, who play 4 games per day over the 2 day tournament. These matches last over an hour each and are characterised by a high number of sprints, jumps, sharp turns, and dynamic throws.
The breaks between games vary between 1-2 hours. In longer breaks, the players may take in solid food, but that can be risky when breaks are shorter. This is where our carbohydrate and electrolyte mixes (Fuel and Elektro) in liquids are helpful, as well as in moments when players are waiting to be substituted on.
The team spirit was very strong at Vienna Spring Break, and players on the sidelines would move up and down the pitch tracking their teammates. It was great to see! However, in moments like those, a player may forget to refuel or rehydrate, so a routine can help. Visible fuel and liquids have been found to increase consumption. Leave a bottle in plain sight.
With repeated bouts of activity, hydration becomes increasingly important, and there’s an elevated chance that a player will start their 3rd or 4th game dehydrated without a structured approach to hydration. Dehydration reduces performance and increases injury risk, as concentration and muscle function suffer, among other things. Add Elektro to any standard drink to improve hydration.
Ultimate Frisbee continues to develop, and already features professional leagues and an increasing focus on strength and conditioning. Echo Wien’s progressive approach to nutrition is an example for others to follow, as they prepare to defend their national title in Graz this September.
Team Rock it. stands with Echo Wien.
